Justine Tanya Bateman is an American writer, actress, director and producer. She is best known for playing Mallory Keaton in Family Ties’ TV show. This role earned her other acting roles in the movie industry.  She published her first book, Fame, in 2008; she also published a new book, Face, in 2021. Justine Bateman also wrote, directed Violet starring Olivia Munn, Luke Bracey and Justin Theroux. Violet was premiered at the SXSW film festival. Bateman was born in Rye, New York, on February 19, 1966. She was born to Victoria Elizabeth and Kent Bateman. Justine Bateman was born in a show business family. Her father worked as a writer, producer, and director. Her mother was a stewardess for Pan Am. Bateman has a younger brother, Jason Bateman. Jason is also a popular actor, best known for Michael Bluth on Arrested Development.  

Education 

Justine attended Taft High School in Woodland Hills, California. However, Bateman could not enrol in college after high school due to her contractual obligations.

In 2012, at age 46, she enrolled in the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). In 2016,  Bateman attained a bachelor’s degree in computer science and digital media management from UCLA. 

Career

Justine Bateman’s brother, Jason, motivated Justine’s interest in acting. After seeing her brother’s television debut on Little House on the Prairie, she signed with his agency. Her acting role began at a young age. In 1982, Justine Batman enrolled in various Studios as an actress, producer, and writer.

 In 1983, she became part of the TV series and played the role of superficial Mallory Keaton on the television sitcom Family Ties. Justine was nominated for a golden globe award and two Emmy awards for her role in Family Ties in 1986 and 1987. In 1988, she played a lead role in the motion picture Satisfaction as Jennie Lee before she took a break from her acting role in the year 2000.     

Then in 2007, she joined an Internet content production company, FM78.tv, as a partner, writer, and producer. She designed new business models and created brand proposals for the company until 2010.

In 2018, Bateman’s first book, Fame: The Hijacking of Reality, was published. In 2021, her second book, Face: One Square Foot of Skin, was also published 2021.  In the new book Face, Bateman talks about why she refuses plastic surgery.

Bateman wrote her short film directorial debut, Five Minutes and Violet. The Five minutes film was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017, while the Voilet film was premiered at the 2021 SXSW Film Festival.

Batman has a production company named section 5. In 2007, she assisted in producing the Speechless campaign supporting the Writers Guild of America strike. Besides that, She also co-produced with fashion maven Kelly Cutrone on their internet talk show Wake Up and Get Real (WUAGR).

In 2000, she created a clothing design company. Bateman was the CEO and designer of her fashion brand. She managed her clothing design company until its closure in 2003.

Justine Bateman dated Leif Garrett; their relationship lasted for five years until  1985. Leif Garrett is an American actor, singer, songwriter, and television personality.

In 2001, Bateman married Mark Fluent after dating for a longer period. Mark Fluent is the managing director and the head of Western real Estate for Deutsche bank. They have two teenagers, Gianette Fluent and Duke Kenneth Fluent.
