Her father was mostly absent while her German mother raised Sherri and her siblings, Lisa and Michael, single-handedly while also getting a degree and maintaining a day job. Lois worked as a copy editor at Dayton Daily News for most of her career. Sherri Saum and her siblings had to fend for themselves most of the time due to the absence of their father and their mother working overtime to put food on the table.
